The Art of Recycling
This scholarship program in held in February (2012 is the 15th year). High school students create art from 70% used or recyclable material. There are cash prizes and a $1,000 scholarship to a participating high school senior. The event is a collaborative effort among Pasco County Recycling and Education, Pasco County School District Recycling, Keep Pasco Beautiful and the Pasco Arts Council. It’s funded through private donations.
The Great American Cleanup
This is our signature event and a Keep America Beautiful affiliate requirement. We organize a large cleanup of the community the third Saturday of every April involving over 20 volunteer groups. Our 2012 cleanup attracted 355 volunteers and netted 17.44 tons of trash. This is funded through private donations.
Newspaper in Education
This event is held every April on the Sunday before Earth Day celebrations in Pasco County. We contribute articles to this 16-page insert into the Tampa Bay Times (formerly St. Petersburg Times), which promotes recycling education to both youth and adult. This is a collaborative effort with the schools, which is funded by Pasco County Recycling and Education.
Earth Day at Crews Lake
Held every April on the Saturday following the Great American Cleanup. This event promotes environmental awareness and sustainability. This is a fun family event with food, entertainment, games and prizes, vendors and much more. Funded through private donations with the primary sponsor being Covanta Energy, Inc.
Held on the third Saturday of every September. This is the second county wide cleanup. This is funded through private donations.
Event Recycling – Container Loan Program
To promote recycling at public events, we loan portable recycling containers to event organizers to help them recycle. We provide the clear recycling bags. This requires a volunteer group to bring it to an event. Funded through private donations.
We support volunteer cleanup groups IF they have a proven track record doing cleanups. The official Adopt-A-Road program is currently under the auspices of Pasco County. We bring volunteers to that program.
